What it does

SMS Spam Stopper is an extension that blocks unwanted and spam SMS from the Messages application. The blocked SMS are placed inside the "Unknown & Junk" section of the Messages application.

Enabling the extension

To enable the extension, please visit:

1 Open Settings → Messages → Unknown & Spam

2 Enable "Filter Unknown Senders"

3 Enable "SMS Spam Stopper"

A video showing how to set up the extension is available on the main page of the application, and on our YouTube tutorials channel.

Tip 1 — Blocking SMS To make sure SMS from a sender gets blocked, delete that contact from your phone's Contacts. The application filters only those senders who are not saved in the Contacts of the phone.
Tip 2 — Allowing / whitelisting SMS If an SMS from a legitimate sender is marked as spam, just add that sender's number to your phone's Contacts — the application will no longer mark their SMS as spam. The next SMS from that number will automatically appear in the "Contacts & SMS" section of Messages. To allow SMS from a service like "VK-AMZN", add it to the "Allowed Words" section (add VK-AMZN in this case).

Configuration options

1 Heuristic Detection

Please keep this option enabled to automatically detect unknown spam messages. Heuristic analysis uses artificial intelligence to detect unknown spam messages using its database of 5,000 spam messages.

Note: a message is detected as spam only if it does not contain allowed words and is not from a sender in the phone's contacts.

2 Allowed Words

Add the words you wish the application to whitelist. If an SMS from an unknown sender contains an allowed keyword, the application will not identify it as spam. The application ignores case sensitivity — "OTP", "otp" and "oTp" are all treated the same.

3 Allowed Numbers

To allow SMS from a number, be sure to add it to your phone's contact list. Numbers in the contact list of the phone will never be treated as spam.

What if an SMS was already identified as spam and moved to "Unknown & Junk"? In this case too, save the number to the phone's Contacts. When the next SMS is received from the same number, it will automatically be moved to the "Contacts & SMS" section of Messages. To allow SMS from a service like "VK-AMZN", add it to the "Allowed Words" section. You can also add common words found in the text of the SMS to the "Allowed Words" list.

4 Blocked Words

Add the words you wish the application to identify as spam. The application comes with a pre-populated list of around 600 known spam keywords, so any SMS containing these words is blacklisted automatically. Case sensitivity is automatically ignored for better results.

Note: if an SMS comes from a sender in your phone's Contacts, or contains an Allowed Word, the application will not blacklist it even if it contains blocked keywords — so please configure your settings accordingly.

5 Blocked Numbers

This setting is very useful if you receive SMS from a particular number many times. If the number in an SMS matches a blocked number, it is directly blacklisted. If there is already an SMS from the blocked number in the "Contacts & SMS" section of Messages, it will automatically be moved to "Unknown & Junk" when that sender messages you again.

Troubleshooting — an SMS is not blocked

If you received a spam SMS that wasn't blocked, add the sender of that SMS to the "Blocked Numbers" list of the application. You can also add the words from that SMS to the "Blocked Words" list. This makes sure you don't receive similar spam again.
